Our Website Nightmare

In 2005, we hired a local guy to create, maintain, and host our Fay’s Fitness website. He was reasonably priced and did a great job. He showed me how to maintenance the site myself and it was very successful at generating traffic.

In 2015, my Webmaster moved and sold my site maintenance to an outfit called “Happy Dog”. I didn’t care at the time, as I had complete control.

In 2018, our site was hacked. Happy Dog said they could set up a new site in WordPress for $950. Seemed expensive to me, as I had done sites myself before. Also, it seemed they had some culpability in that I had never had a problem before having them work on my site.

I shopped around to find someone else that could move my site to a new server and recreate in WordPress. No problem finding someone to make a website, but not so easy to find someone willing to move a site from an existing host. I gave up my search and decided I would get into it after I retired in the Spring of 2019.

It was a cold day in January of 2020. Too cold for outside projects so I decided to investigate what it would take to fix the website issue. The scariest part to me was our email. We could not afford a disruption as we relied on it heavily.

In a Google search, I found HostGator. They advertised that they would migrate my site for free and then give me the tools to get back up and running.

And they did exactly that. Within a few days, I was done with Happy Dog and was in total control of my website. HostGator set me up with WordPress and after I went through a tutorial, got my sit back up to functioning. total cost with one year of hosting was $180.

HostGator is extremely helpful. I was talked through the whole process. They offer reasonably priced services for people that have no knowledge about websites.

I am very thankful to them for all that they did.
