One of the hardest parts of our business is being straight up honest with people regarding their fitness.
This may come as a surprise to some of you that know us, but the reality is that some who come to us for help are just not ready to hear it straight.
Imagine someone coming to you after years of neglecting their diet and exercise. They’re looking for a “tune-up” but need an overhaul. What do you recommend? Brutal honesty? Do you tell them they have to learn a whole new way of living, which will cut out all those yummy cookies from their daily routine? Do you tell them they need to exercise vigorously 5 times a week, even though they haven’t walked a mile straight in years?
No. Instead you help them take baby steps. We pick the most important things first and start working there – like cutting down on Pepsi and getting some cardio.
But not all people are ignorant with what is wrong with their fitness program. Some know exactly what’s wrong.
There are times, that I wish I were Tony Robbins in one of his seminars. Tony is 6′ 7″ tall. He gets right into people’s faces and identifies the one thing (right or wrong) that they need to change and then calls them out on it. It often turns into an emotional turning point for people.
It’s our experience that many people already have a good idea what is holding them back but refuse to change. Watching the sitcom “Mom” the other night and the term “Help-Rejecting-Complainer was used. Not everyone complains, but rejecting help is common.
Time to call in Tony.
Seriously, all you can do is lead a horse to water. Show the path forward. It’s up to the person to make the change. We just want the change to be as painless as possible because if the pain of the change exceeds the pain to remain, no change will take place.
Barb’s the expert here. She’s patient and won’t get in your face. I promise.
If you’re ready to have it straight regarding your Fitness Program, including Diet and Exercise, the Stay Off the Scale Challenge is for you. It will identify areas where you excel and areas for improvement.
Several people in the gym, along with Barb and I, do the Challenge time after time. If you think you can “handle the truth” join us any time.
