Planning Your Fitness Program

Back in 2020, I wrote Do You Need a Trainer?.

My opinion is that everyone should have a Personal Trainer at their disposal. I have one and everyone in our gym has at least one (Barb).

But the majority of gym members in the U.S. do not utilize a Personal Trainer or seek professional help when they join a gym. An estimated 85% of gym members go it alone (Gemini).

We’re a nation of DIYers and from my perspective as long as everyone 1) is being safe, 2) has effective workouts, 3) avoids fad diets, and 4) is sticking with the program, it’s all good.

Here’s what we want for our members:

  1. Everyone should know exactly what they’re doing in a gym – and not just our gym. Members should be able to walk into ANY gym and feel comfortable working out.
  2. They should know what makes up a solid fitness plan, which includes diet, exercise, stress management, and sleep.
  3. They should know how to design and modify their workouts to keep them effective and motivating. Members should have enough knowledge to keep variety in their workouts as to not be bored with doing the same thing over and over.
  4. They should also know what makes up healthy nutrition and how to put together a plan they can stick to.

Barb and I are putting a new focus on all of the above. We want to make sure everyone in our gym has the tools to meet their goals in a safe, effective and motivating manner.

Here are Two of Fay’s Fitness’ Illustrious Trainers

Again, the quickest path to being your own trainer is to hire a Personal Trainer. But as mentioned, we’re a nation of DIYers and that’s what Youtube is for!

So here’s how we can help!:

Your First Visit

When you start with us, your orientation will include:

  • Establishing your goals
  • Prescribing an exercise program
  • Training on equipment needed for the program
  • Review of eating habits.

In a few hours, we’ll focus in on a program based on your goals to get you started. We’ll figure out what you need to do and show you how to do it. If you’ve had training before, things will likely go very smoothly – like riding a bike.

If it’s been a while, we’ll do what we can with what you have, but may recommend more personal training.

Following-up

In the past, after orientation we have typically cut our members loose following a typical open gym model. Our intent was to do regular Follow-ups with our members to make sure they are meeting their goals and to offer assistance where we can.

In the past, we have been lax with this. We’re going to do better.

Follow-ups will be every 3 months with newer members and yearly with our experienced clan.

Educational Posts

We regularly post educational information on this website as well as on our Facebook page. We encourage our members to follow us to expand their fitness minds!

Classes

During the winter months, we are planning classes to help with everyone’s fitness journey.
