Exercising with Injuries

So I tore something in my elbow. Probably a tendon.

One thing I learned early in my exercise career is that injuries should never shut you down. In fact, they are opportunities.

I witnessed a young gymnast breaking his foot during practice at UC Davis. Being on the gymnastics team at a college, you don’t have the opportunity to just sit out for 3 months and heal. Your condensed 4 year career will likely be over. This particular gymnast was back at training in 2 weeks – cast and all. I thought he was amazing prior to the accident – until I saw him do a one-legged front flip!

Static Friction

The force required to move something from a standstill is greater than the force required to keep it moving. That’s because of static friction.

So it’s no wonder when it’s time to go to the gym you complain as you drag yourself there. It’s difficult and takes a lot of energy.

It’s Physics. A body at rest tends to stay at rest – in front of the TV.

Our Website Nightmare

In 2005, we hired a local guy to create, maintain, and host our Fay’s Fitness website. He was reasonably priced and did a great job. He showed me how to maintenance the site myself and it was very successful at generating traffic.

In 2015, my Webmaster moved and sold my site maintenance to an outfit called “Happy Dog”. I didn’t care at the time, as I had complete control.

In 2018, our site was hacked. Happy Dog said they could set up a new site in WordPress for $950. Seemed expensive to me, as I had done sites myself before. Also, it seemed they had some culpability in that I had never had a problem before having them work on my site.

Mind’s Eye

I think I’ve solved a mystery that has nagged me for years.

As a gym owner and a gym rat for over 40 years, I have always wondered why the majority of us don’t exercise regularly. All of us recognize the importance of exercise for a longer, better life, but most of us just don’t keep with it. Why?

I believe people that exercise regularly “see themselves” as someone that is capable and in shape. By exercising, they are striving to be what they see in themselves. Those that take good care of themselves are simply fulfilling their vision.

We Back!

After a long pause, faysfitness.com is back!

As most of you know, our last site was hacked and the “Webmasters” wanted $950 to recreate.

Wasn’t happening.

Had to wait until I retired to create our new site. Fortunately the learning curve to create on WordPress is not too long.

I figure by New Years the site will be fully operational. Thanks for your patience.
